The Mask of Zorro Movie Summary
The Mask of Zorro is an action-adventure swashbuckler film directed by Martin Campbell and starring Antonio Banderas, Anthony Hopkins, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Stuart Wilson.
The film was released in 1998 and is a remake of the 1940 film starring Tyrone Power. It follows a young thief who becomes the apprentice to the legendary bandit Zorro to seek revenge against the usurper who killed his family.
The plot centers on Alejandro Murrieta/Zorro (Banderas) and his mission to avenge the death of his brother at the hands of Don Rafael Montero (Wilson). He is mentored by the aging yet still formidable swordsman Don Diego de la Vega (Hopkins), who is Zorro.
With Diego’s help, Alejandro learns sword fighting and acquires the skills he needs to take down Montero and reclaim what is rightfully his.
Along the way, he also falls in love with Elena (Zeta-Jones), Rafael’s beautiful daughter who has been promised to someone else.
